Interior design online: how a remote project works

Working with an interior designer no longer necessarily means meetings in person, repeated site visits or a studio in your own city. More and more furnishing projects are run entirely online, from the first consultation to the delivery of the furniture at home. Here is how a remote interior design project works in practice, and why for many people in Italy it is now the most natural choice.

How a remote consultation starts

The starting point is the same as in a traditional project: describing the space to be furnished, your own style and an indicative budget. The difference is that it all happens through photos, measurements and a detailed description sent online, instead of a physical site visit. That is not necessarily a limitation: a few well-taken photographs and the main measurements of the room are enough to set up an accurate project, and it also avoids having to coordinate appointments and travel.

Seeing the result before buying, thanks to 3D renderings

One of the things that makes a remote project as reliable as one done in person is the use of 3D renderings: before buying any furniture, you can see a realistic representation of how the finished space will look. This greatly reduces the uncertainty typical of buying online, because it is not a matter of imagining the result but of seeing it, and of being able to ask for changes before going ahead.

Revisions and communication: how they work

After the first proposal, the exchange happens by message, email or call, with the option of asking for changes to individual elements (a different colour, an alternative material, a revised layout) until the project really reflects what you were looking for. The advantage, compared with a meeting in person, is that you can take your time to consider each proposal calmly instead of having to decide on the spot.

Shipping the furniture throughout Italy

Once the project is approved, the furniture is bought from the suppliers and shipped directly to your home, wherever you are in Italy, not just in the big cities. This is probably the point where an online service beats a local studio for convenience: there is nothing to go and collect and no need to coordinate deliveries with several different shops, because the whole process, from the order to the delivery, is handled by one point of contact.

Why choose an online project instead of a physical studio

A remote project is not a compromise compared with a traditional studio: for many people it is simply more practical. Some concrete advantages:

  • No geographical constraint: you can work with the same service whether you are in Milan, in a small town or on an island.
  • Faster timings: with no site visits to coordinate, the project can start more quickly.
  • Often lower costs: a leaner structure means, in many cases, a more affordable service than a studio with physical premises and staff dedicated to site visits.
  • A record of every stage: renderings, revisions and communications stay documented, instead of relying only on what was discussed out loud during an appointment.

Who it suits

An online project works well both for anyone furnishing a whole house and for anyone who wants to rethink a single room: living room, bedroom or any other space. It is a particularly good solution for anyone moving to a new city who does not yet have a local point of reference for furnishing, or for anyone who simply prefers to handle everything comfortably from home, in their own time.
